Ready for Spring

Here’s an easy spring craft I recently created.  I started with a coffee mug from a thrift store…
Apply some sandpaper or other scratchy material to give some grit to the finish so it will hold some paint.
Next,  apply some glaze with a sponge brush and then wipe off with a paper towel.  Here is the glaze I use:
Applying the glaze will give the cup a bit of a distressed and aged look like this:
I grabbed my acrylic paint (color = Buttercrunch) and used a dry brush to create even more layers…
Doesn’t it look more weathered now?  Just the look I wanted.  Next, I filled it with some brown straw and a bird.
Tweet. Tweet.
Nice as is, but even better in a group of spring decor…

Ceramic Basket with Bird and Nest

This little ceramic basket I found at a discount store was in need of a little something:
A little too “cutesy” with the bright pink gingham ribbon, but the potential was there for a makeover.  So I removed the ribbon and introduced the basket to these guys:
After sanding it down, you’re left with a little “tooth” on the finish so that it will hold paint or, in this case, glaze…
After sponging on a little glaze and then wiping off,  I was starting to see a difference…
This brown and white polka dot ribbon gives the basket a whole new personality, don’t ya think?
I topped it off with a bird and nest for some simple and fresh spring decor….
What do you think?

Little Things Make a Big Difference

We’ve lived in the house for five years and I decided it was finally time to give some love to the kitchen cabinets.  Hello, hardware!
Here are my before and after photos … little things … but what a big difference I appreciate daily …

I really, REALLY wanted all the drawers to have pulls that looked like this:
cabinet pull
But, we have a LOT of drawers and at about $4.50-$5 per pull, my “little project” was becoming huge.  So, I settled for simplicity and got the same bronzy look on a simple handle throughout the kitchen.
I did get my “fix” though and put a few of my fave drawer pulls on this dresser that I painted…you can read about this makeover here.
Thanks for visiting! More house projects coming up soon!

New Years Resolution Art

I saw this quote the other day and loved it, so I turned it into some subway art.   I think it would look great in an office or kitchen.  Available in my Etsy store.
I hand painted on an 11x14 canvas using acrylics and ink, then  distressed it for an aged look.
What is your favorite quote?

New Valentine Paintings

Here’s a few paintings I did for Valentines Day.   I created them using acrylics on 11x14 canvases.
A few closeups…
They are lightly inked and distressed for an aged look, and are currently available in my Etsy shop.  I also have PRINTS available! Thanks for looking!

New year, New shop

I’ve opened a new Etsy shop “The Happy Lunchbox” with my little works of happy art!  I put one of these notes in my daughter’s lunchbox each day and she loves getting promo1a

I’m know she enjoys her lunch more <grin>, but I enjoy creating these little notes for her to find.  In each note, I write words of encouragement, sweet nothings, knock knock jokes, or just a simple “I love you”.

The Happy Lunchbox is now featuring these blank note cards with my original art.  Who doesn’t like a little happy note now and then?  Tuck ‘em in a lunchbox, purse, briefcase, backpack, book, etc. and surprise someone with a little happiness.

Currently selling each image as a set of 8 note cards.  But, I’m happy to mix and match images…just ask!

To kick things off, I’m offering a FREE gift to my first 10 customers at The Happy Lunchbox.   Why not start a new tradition this year with these little works of happiness?!   Happy New Year!
