Weekly Challenge #2 - Art Supplies

My friend Suzie aka Junk Art Queen created the Chic Chick painting group on Yahoo where I host a weekly challenge topic for the members. It's quite fun...check it out! We've just gotten started with these challenges, and we're having a ball!

This week's challenge topic was art supplies. So I painted a very loose interpretation of what my kitchen counter looks like when I'm working on a project. I've never done a pencil sketch before, so I thought I'd try it.

Sweet Treat Tuesday

This morning I painted a three-tiered cake on a pedastal with flowers and greenery for a "Sweet Treats" challenge. I host the weekly challenge over on Chic Chics Yahoo Group ... if you're a painter, you might wanna check it out!

Anyway, I didn't like the way the roses looked, so I kept dabbing the paintbrush and eventually it took on a whole new impressionist look.

I had to stop painting when I spilled my dirty paint water all over the counter. Luckily, my canvas wasn't next to the spill at the time!

I still need to tweak a couple of areas, but for now my painting looks like this:

By the way, when I asked my four-year-old what she thought of it, she said, "that's a pretty flower pot, mommy." So there ya go. And here I thought it was a cake...

Later in the day I painted another piece! I hardly ever get two paintings done in one day! This one is a pedestal bowl full of roses and chocolates.

Once again, my four-year-old looked at it and said, "that looks like a giant bowl of ice cream, mom." You decide....

Monday's Message

"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you'll never walk alone."

List Making

I'm a list maker. And I try to list attainable goals so I don't get frustrated with the results (or lack of). So here's my list for April...
  • I want to plant spring flowers for the front porch
  • I am making a list of things to do this summer with my daughters
  • I am reading "Time of My Life" by Allison Winn Scotch
  • I want to rent "Australia"
  • I plan to paint my laundry room
  • I hope to create 3 new paintings for my Etsy shop
  • I aim to try 3 new recipes
  • I need to clean my office space

I Love My Nest

"I love my nest, I love my nest, from East to West, my nest is best." So says the Dr. Suess book my kids and I have been reading lately. And it made me think of my favorite spring decor item in our "nest".

I just love these little spring ducks I found at Hobby Lobby! I put them on candle holders on our mantle. They make me happy! And I love having something besides candles on those holders.

And some fun news...I made an Etsy treasury today! Yay! This little birdy brightened up a great treasury created by Out on A Whim Studio. How sweet of her to include me! Thanks again!

Easter is this Sunday and I can't wait! I've been adding to the kids' Easter baskets for a couple of months now and they are overflowing with fun stuff for them. I hear Peter Cottontail will stop by at some point on Sunday as well. Hope you have a blessed weekend!
