Is it just me or is spring taking forever to get here? Here are some projects I just recently finished up.

This first one is a mixed media painting I did and it's done with a few different backgrounds (or none at all). Here is the plain background:

I think the background below is my favorite. I just like polka dots, what can I say?!

The one below has some text and gives it a different feel altogether...

Below is a painting I worked on last week during painting class. Hmmmm... I think brighter colors suit me better...but he's still cute, huh?

St. Patrick's Day Altered Recipe Card Swap

This week I've been creating some altered art recipe cards for an upcoming swap. These are pretty easy and fun to do. I think the most time consuming part for me is deciding what recipe to use. I have a few more started, but here are some completed ones... whadda ya think?

Happy Valentines Day

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow. Here's to happy hearts and lots of chocolate! Enjoy your day!

p.s. Can you guess which one of these is actually a decorated cake and not a box of chocolates??

new year, new art

I've been wanting to do some new art for quite awhile but took a long break over the holidays to think about what I wanted to do. I've got several ideas swimming around in my head and it's nice to finally start putting them on paper! Here are a few mixed media pieces I just finished up.

This first one is probably my favorite. It references John 15:11-12 (note the house numbers) and reads, "This is my commandment: that you love one another, that your joy may be full" in black text under the row of houses. Chimneys, doors, and the moon are text from my Bible.

I've also started a series of seasonal prints featuring a sweet little girl who likes polka dots! These girls just make me so happy! Here are the first two in the series. I have Easter and Mother's Day versions in the works so stay tuned...

I just love these little girl prints, and I'm offering them with custom text so they'll be more versatile. Here are a few examples:

1. LOVE
2. A hundred hearts would be too few to carry all my love for you.
3. The Greatest Love - For God so loved the world that
He gave His only begotten so that whoever believes in him shall have eternal life.
4. (Birth Announcement) Lucy, December 6, 2008, 7 lbs. 6 oz., 19 inches
Note...all my new prints are now available on my Etsy, and you can see better pics in my Flickr photos.

Her First Dance

I can't believe my little girl is four years old, and already going to her first Daddy/daughter Valentine's dance! There was so much excitement in the house today as we got her ready for the dance. A new dress, new tights, her first corsage, and a dinner date with daddy before the dance...she would grin just talking about it all! What a big day for a four year old!

A few nights ago as she was getting ready for bed she said, "Daddy, tonight when I go to sleep I'm going to go to dreamland. But if I can't find my way or I get lost, I'll just come home again." I know she'll get there tonight and have sweet dreams for sure.

Think Green for Spring

Today I have the blahs. It's cold and gray outside and the weatherman totally lied. He said it was supposed to be in the 70s and sunny.

I'm ready for spring! I'm ready for longer days and warmer weather so the kids can play outside. I'm ready for tulips and Easter eggs. I'm ready to see the neighbors outside working in their flowerbeds. I'm ready for St. Patrick's Day, patio weather and the farmer's market. I am ready for the trees to turn from brown to GREEN. It should come as no surprise that green is my favorite color. Think green for spring and it'll be here before we know it!

Mosaic fun on flickr

Guess what I just learned how to do on flickr? This mosaic thing is gonna be addictive, I can tell! I'll get better at it, but I'm pleased with my first attempt.

Valentines Recipe Card Swap

The Chic Chicks group just finished up their first altered art recipe card swap. Every participant uses 4x6 cardstock and then decorates the cards using embellishments, etc. and a copy of a recipe for Valentines. This swap theme was "Sweets for the Sweet". I mailed my cards this morning...my partner is getting four! Hope she likes them...
